We sell native plant seeds! The seeds sold at Botany Yards are all native to the U.S. Many were hand collected from southeastern states. Growing plants from seed promotes more genetic diversity which will help the species to survive in the future.
We sell three different types of seeds:
1. Seeds marked "ecotype" originated and were collected in the southeast. They will be labeled with the state also. For example, there are Georgia Ecotypes. Ecotypes have come from that provenance and will be well adapted for the climate and soil conditions that occur in that region.
2. Some seeds were collected in a certain area but may not be originally from that region. For example, they could be labeled as "collected in Georgia" but may have originated in another state and been grown in Georgia for 5 years or more. Plants from these seeds will be acclimated to the environment. 3. Other seeds offered are neither ecotype or collected in Georgia but may come from other states. They will all grow in the southeast. These will not have any additional labeling such as "ecotype" or "collected in Georgia". The seed packets are handmade. The plants were drawn in ink by Rita, copied, folded by hand into packets, and then filled with seeds.
The greeting cards were also drawn in ink by Rita and reproduced onto white cards. The drawings depict creatures found in the southeast region of the U.S. We would like to create an awareness of what is growing and living in our natural environment.
Shipping and handling is $6.00. We will not ship to these states: HI, AK, MI and FL.
